percussONE is a musical, multiplayer take on the classic Bejeweled-style game available for XNA Community Games on the Xbox 360. By flipping colours on a grid, the object of the game is to line up 3 or more in a row or column - of course, the more in the line, the bigger the score.

What sets it apart is the frantic nature of multiple players all trying to score combos on the same grid. Just playing 2-player is crazy enough, with shouts of 'Hey, you stole my line!' to players just going completely insane and roaming around the board randomly swapping tiles willy-nilly. percussONE supports up to 4-player grid-grinding and it can be pretty action-packed stuff, if a little frustrating at times.

As you may have already guessed from the title, there is also a musical theme going on here. Choosing your music genre and melody, tiles drop from the sky and pulse along in time with the beat. There's also apparently extra points awarded for moving/scoring in time with the song, although I personally didn't see anything special being added to my points when I gave it a go.

With all these types of games, there's always got to be a slight sense of danger and it comes here in the form of overstacking. As the tiles fall down, they stack on top of each other. Let too many stack and they'll start to throw a heavy bass note in to warn you on impending death. That stack needs to be matched up quick or else it's curtains for the lot of you.

Finally, there's a little 'riff' system going on whereby matching up 4 or more in a row will start a riff going, and continuing to match this many in quick succession with give you a huge combo multiplier. If a player can get this going they are in for a nice bundle of points, but it really is quite difficult and the most we ever ending up achieving was x2 or x3.

If you're looking for a fast-paced multiplayer bonanza to pass some time with friends, percussONE really isn't a bad choice - it looks nice, and it's got the gameplay you crave. You can grab it from the Xbox Community Games section for 400 MS Points, or alternatively visit the Xbox Live Marketplace and place your order there. There's a demo too!
