The alpha build of Lexaloffle's Voxatron is about to be released, so you'll finally be able to get your grubby hands on it. For those not in the loop, it's an adventure game about voxels and shooting things, and it's got some serious style.
Developer Joseph White sent me over the upcoming build this weekend, I've been having a blast with it. Everything in the world of Voxatron can be deconstructed down into a mess of voxels, and whenever you shoot an enemy enough, they'll explode into lots of itty bitty pieces. What's really great is that the entire world is destructible - indeed, if there is a solid wall and an enemy on the other side, you can fire into the wall to break a hole through it, then pepper the bad guy with bullets straight through the hole.
My only concern is the controls, which feel a little awkward. You can move in eight directions, but your character will only look and fire in four directions. The idea is that as you start shooting, the hero will become locked in that direction and strafe fire as you move. It's in desperate need of a double-stick control scheme, similar to the recent Binding of Isaac.
The alpha build should be going up sometime very soon, according to Joseph, and you'll need to pre-order the game to get hold of it. We will of course let you know when that appears.
