nyu-media-ball.jpgFollowing the footsteps of Rockin' Android and Carpe Fulgur, Nyu Media has announced its first wave of localized Japanese indie games, slated to appear in digital distributor channels for Windows machines starting in late 2011. Most of the popular Japanese indie genres are represented in the lineup: adventure, arcade shooter, bullet hell, and beat 'em up.

Developer Tennen-sozai brings vampires and deviants home in bullet hell title eXceed 2nd - Vampire REX. It boasts a dual-polarity gameplay system with eight stages (that's long for a bullet hell these days). Nyu has also secured the sequel, eXceed 3rd - Jade Penetration Black Package.

Edelweiss also lends Nyu two games. ETHER VAPOR Remaster is a 3D arcade shooter, boasting a dynamic camera that uses vertical, horizontal and cinematic chase cam views to add to the game's feel. Fighting Fairy (working title) is a cute-looking beat 'em up with chaining combos and RPG-style leveling.

ASTRO PORT offers up its arcade-style side-scrolling shooter, SATAZIUS (an indie pick from Tim), with old school graphics, gigantic boss battles, and an arsenal of upgradeable weapons. Developer atelier773 hands over its adventure game Cherry Tree High Comedy Club.

Notably missing for me are the fighting games and traditional RPGs, the latter of which understandably consumes a lot of localization effort. With time and success, I'm sure they will follow! Onto some footage:
