This week on "Best Of Indie Games," we take a look at some of the top independent PC Flash/downloadable titles released over this last week.
The delights in this edition include a handful of notable entries from the Ludum Dare 23 competition, a browser pick about unlocking achievements, a highlight from Indie Royale's Spring Bundle, plus a new release from popular Flash game developer Nitrome.
Here's some recent highlights from IndieGames.com:
Game Pick: 'Tiny Island Adventure' (Jussi Simpanen, browser)
"Tiny Island Adventure is a Ludum Dare 23 entry, in which you are tasked with helping Lydia escape the tiny floating island that she inhabits. You must search for scrap metal and fuel in an attempt to build a rocket."
Game Pick: 'Achievement Unlocked 3' (jmtb02 Studios, browser)
"Achievement Unlocked 3 introduces a story mode in which the series' elephant protagonist finds itself trapped in a maze ruled by a gluttonous hamster. Players have plenty of collectible items to find and new areas to discover in their quest to unlock a ridiculous set of 400 achievements."
Game Pick: 'Depths of Peril' (Soldak Entertainment, commercial indie)
"Depths of Peril is a hack and slash action RPG that will feel right at home for longtime Diablo players and World of Warcraft fans. You've got your attacks, you've got your abilities, you've got your health and mana, you've got your clicking and you've got a bit of mindless looting fun."
Game Pick: 'Memento XII' (deepnight, browser)
"Crafted in the shape of a traditional point & click adventure game, Memento XII will put players into the shoes of an aging inmate. Here, you'll find yourself investigating the tiny world that is your cell."
Game Pick: 'A Super Mario Summary' (Johan Peitz, browser)
"Johan Peitz (Bathos, Icy Tower) turns every level in the original Super Mario Bros. into a single-screen puzzle-platformer in A Super Mario Summary, a free Flash game created for Ludum Dare."
Game Pick: 'Gunbrick' (Nitrome, browser)
"Gunbrick is a puzzler, in which you control a brick that can roll at 90 degree angles. There's some well thought out level design, a lot of polish and unlike some Nitrome releases, Gunbrick lets you discover the game mechanics for yourself."
Game Pick: 'Miner Warfare' (HeartBit Interactive, commercial indie)
"Miner Warfare challenges players to dig up treasure and fend off their opponents in a variety of underground maps. In a novel twist, the game supports up to eight players simultaneously, with each player handling one half of an Xbox 360 controller."
Game Pick: 'Graveyard Snuggle' (Bryant Drew Jones, commercial indie)
"In Graveyard Snuggle, two or more players sit in a circle, and a skeleton character barks out limb-tangling commands that every participant must obey. If a player jolts the device too severely during his or her turn, the game ends."
Game Pick: 'This Precious Land' (Ishisoft, freeware)
"A simple yet attractively presented sandbox construction/toy, This Precious Land was apparently partially inspired by games like Triple Town and Settlers."
Game Pick: 'Asylum' (Orni, browser)
"Asylum is one of the more unsettling interpretations of the recent Ludum Dare 23's theme. Set within the confines of a padded cell, it is the story of one man's fight against his personal demons."
Game Pick: 'Analogue: A Hate Story' (Christine Love, commercial indie)
"A spiritual successor to Love's popular freeware title Digital: A Love Story, Analogue tasks players with unraveling the mysteries behind a failed interstellar colony launched in the 25th century."
