After launching for Xbox Live Arcade last year only to be "largely ignored by everyone" (as developer David Johnston puts it), Smudged Cat Games' The Adventures of Shuggy is about to get a second chance at earning the attention it deserves with an upcoming Steam release.
The Adventures of Shuggy is a brilliant, varied 2D platformer in which each level features a specific gameplay mechanic. Some levels focus on room rotation or swinging on ropes, for instance, while others demand that players use time travel to create clones in order to solve puzzles.
Unfortunately, Shuggy suffered from a canceled publishing contract, poor release timing, and a lack of promotion when it premiered for Xbox Live Arcade; Johnston discusses the game's troubled launch in a postmortem feature at Gamasutra. Here's hoping the Steam version is more successful. More people need to play this game!
A release date for the Steam version of The Adventures of Shuggy has not yet been announced.
