Freeware Game Pick: Battle Combat Fighters (Nifflas)

While Nifflas puts the finishing touches on Knytt Underground, he managed to squeeze out a work-in-progress freeware pack for Windows: Battle Combat Fighters. The newest version in the download is Battle Combat Fighter Ultra, but all are iterations on a crazy arena shooter formula that really plays out more like bullet-hell chess with physics. Players and enemies asynchronously shoot or boost one movement at a time, with the white and blue dots predicting your movement depending on which action you choose.
Nifflas' unofficial indie PR rep, Douglas Wilson of Die Gute Fabrik, tells me that each stage is infinite; players aim for the highest score possible. Most of the game was created by Nifflas, but part of it is by his game design students. Another level is by some students he worked with at a game jam. Further development on the game is uncertain.
Side lesson here? Attend some game jams, as you never know who you will get to work with!
