Celestial Mechanica, the game that split an indie nation, is free starting today for Windows and Mac users. The mini-Metroidvania released from Roger Hicks (PulseBoy, Seedling) and artist Paul Veer (Super Crate Box, Serious Sam: The Random Encounter) last year was $5, but the developers are now making it free in the wake of a revamped version coming soon.
Hicks tells IndieGames that the new game will be aimed at Steam and be at least 2.5 times bigger with the gameplay and mechanics "more realized over a bigger game." It will contain new art, a more fleshed out story, and "even more epic than before" music.
While Hicks blogs that anyone who purchased the game in the past 2 months can email him for something special, he told us that anyone who has an issue with it going free can email him. "I really do appreciate them supporting the project."
