Wrestling Gamers United has launched a Kickstarter campaign for Pro Wrestling X, an in-progress PC title that aims to combine the gameplay mechanics of Nintendo 64-era wrestling games like WWF No Mercy and WCW/nWo Revenge with the in-depth character customization features of Human's Fire Pro Wrestling series.

The game has been in development since 2002, and its creators have faced numerous issues along the way. "Our programmer doesn't own a desk; he sits on a couch cushion and works on a coffee table," graphic designer Eric Schmidt explains.

Schmidt goes on to list the problems that have plagued the project since its inception, which include: "Near-death experiences. Black mold. Death threats. Stolen code sold to us. Money. No money. Less than no money. Eviction notices. [And] a crew less like the nWo and more like Spinal Tap."

Despite a few rough patches during development, however, Pro Wrestling X's engine has been successfully built, and the project has earned the support of wrestler Lance Storm and WWF No Mercy producer Sanders Keel. The team has set a funding goal of $75,000 to cover the cost of redesigning the game's art and animations.
