Locomalito has released for Windows his mid-80s arcade action tribute Maldita Castilla today. The game includes 6 levels, 14 bosses and more than 40 enemies. All this equals about an hour of gameplay, which is rather rich for arcade standards. Factoring in multiple deaths extends play time, too.
My playthrough felt very Ghost 'n' Goblins like, but the developer cites Karnov, Trojan, Tiger Road, Black Tiger, Shinobi, and Rygar as inspiration, too. It's rather challenging but not too punishing. For one, I was able to continue after dying at a boss fight. Visual Tip: F5 - Changes Scanlines/CRT overlay, in case this filter bugs you.
If you enjoyed the game, you can donate to Locomalito for extra goodies.
