Trendy Entertainment has announced Dungeon Defenders II is in development and will be playable at PAX East 2013 in Boston, MA this weekend. Among the first details revealed, Dungeon Defenders II will be free-to-play for PC, Mac, iOS, Android, and Web. It will have a new competitive mode, is half-described as a MOBA, and is actually already in closed Beta testing.

Dungeon Defenders II will have a cooperative and competitive mode, and players' heroes, cosmetic items, pets, and more will transfer across both modes. According to the game's FAQ, the cooperative mode is the true sequel to Dungeon Defenders. "Expect more heroes, more towers and even more loot. New features like an expanded story and a 24-player overworld are also in the works."

More from the FAQ: "The competitive mode is a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) set in the Dungeon Defenders universe. Together, 5 players will take up arms to defend their towers against the opposing team. This fast-paced, streamlined MOBA aims for a shorter learning curve and more rpg-esque take on the genre."

As for release, the cooperative mode will go into beta late 2013 or early 2014. The competitive mode is in closed beta right now, and Trendy has this waiting list for a beta invite.
