mm1.pngBrowsing through the Ludum Dare 26 entries, I stumbled upon an unassuming little game that ended up quietly blowing my mind. Minimalismism by Alexander Taylor is a single-screen platformer controlled with the arrow keys. All you have to do is guide your tiny avatar to the glowing block. But when you touch the block, that's when the magic happens.

In a fountain of pixels, the level falls apart and rebuilds itself into a new configuration. The effect is nothing short of spectacular and should be seen (and heard) in all its glory. The level dies and is reborn like a phoenix each time you reach your goal. You'll find yourself atop a staircase, at the bottom of a shaft, on one side of a fiery pit...

The game takes less than 5 minutes to beat, and the platforming never gets terribly difficult, but it's so satisfying to grab that magic block and change the world around you. Minimalismism is a free download for Windows only, and requires the latest .NET/XNA redistributables to be installed.
