What kind of adventure will you go on this time? In the Ludum Dare 26 game Random Legend Adventure, you play a virtual slot machine to determine your randomized character, weapon, and location. Then you are thrust smack dab into the middle of a mini Zelda-like level to find chests and fight a wave of enemies.
Of the many possibilities available, you might be a wizard, a scuba diver, or a spaceship. You could wield a flaming sword, a trident, or my favorite, a fishbowl. There are many more characters and items, as well, and finding out what they are is a large part of the game's appeal. Each level is a small arena and you navigate it with the arrow keys. Use your weapon with the spacebar, and use your character's special attack with the Shift key. The randomized elements are for the most part cosmetic, but the hack and slash action is solid, and it's so much fun to see what kind of surprises the game will come up with next (hint: there is a way to partially control the slots and choose your own elements from a randomized sampling). The graphics are cartoony and cool, reminiscent of Alien Hominid and Castle Crashers.
Random Legend Adventure is the first completed game by Wilgenbus Thomas, Bouly Clement, and Teixeira Anthony, and I can't wait to see what they come up with next! Random Legend Adventure is a free download and builds are available for Windows, Mac, and Linux.
