Motte Island is a moody, visceral top-down horror game currently in development by One Aperture. The story takes you, a fugitive, back home to the eponymous island in search of your sister. The townsfolk are holding her prisoner, and inevitably, you end up bashing their heads in with a shovel. This is just the beginning of a plot that involves supernatural powers and eldritch abominations. The gameplay is a mix of exploration, stealth, and bloody combat (complete with blood spatter on the "camera lens").
The way Motte Island looks and plays reminds me a lot of Hotline Miami, especially the combat. Use WASD to move and the mouse to aim and attack with whatever weapons you find lying around. You'll do a lot more damage if your target doesn't see you coming. Your objective at any given time is always stated at the bottom of the screen, so you'll never wonder what you're supposed to be doing. One tip: to find the manor, just keep going north.
The demo is a great taste of the full game and certainly whet my appetite. Download the Motte Island alpha demo, currently only for Windows (though the game is planned for Mac, as well). If you want to support the game, you can give it a "Yes" vote on Steam Greenlight.
