Crafter of digital hallucinogens Lilith Megiddo (AKA Cicada Marionette), in the guise of alternate-reality videogame maker Elizabeth Deadman, has flung open the gates to chaos and released Crypt Worlds: Your Darkest Desires, Come True. I wrote about my experience in the Crypt Worlds before, and now everyone can join in the fun (even Linux and Mac users).
After you enter the game, you may want to take a while to get your bearings. There's a lot to see and do, and your surroundings can be a little disorienting. Immerse yourself, but remember to come up for air occasionally. The game saves your progress automatically. Move with WASD and jump with the space bar. Use the mouse to look around, left click to interact, and right click to urinate. That's right, there is a button dedicated to peeing, and it's an important part of the game.
Crypt Worlds features music and sounds from Liz Ryerson, and you can buy the soundtrack here (pay what you want). Crypt Worlds is freeware, but you can always donate a bit to the author to express your support. You can find links to do that on the same page from which you can download the game. Versions are available for Windows, Mac, and Linux.
In addition to the game itself, the download includes the Dictionnaire Crypticus, which is an illustrated guidebook (also available online), and the minigame Horrible Screaming Murderer IV- The Game. Both of these bonuses enhance the bizarre mythology that underlies one of the most imaginative and troubling virtual worlds I've ever encountered. Now excuse me while I dive back into the madness.
