Steve Olofsson's Operation Smash is a 2D Metroidvania game released for Windows, Mac, and Linux that emphasizes close range combat, bullet batting, and hidden wall discovery with mines. A time machine experiment goes wrong, and you have to sort out what happened to you and all the student spectators when you made the jump.
I'm about 12% into the game after almost an hour, so there's certainly a lot to explore and backtrack through. Tip for playing: the ESC key is the default to pull up the map. Without it, you'll start to feel lost rather quickly.
Boasting over 100 rooms and 7-10 hours for playthrough, Operation Smash should offer plenty of game for your $7.19 purchase. If you'd instead want to wait for it to get on Steam, you can vote for it on Greenlight here.
