In Hailstorm Games' upcoming PC action-adventure horror game Claire, you play as the titular woman and her dog "in a warped reality that is a nightmarish reflection of their own," playing through multiple stages of her life and unraveling a "connection between herself, the people she is trying to redeem and the force stalking her from the shadows." At least, that's what the Steam Greenlight page promises.
Players will use light-based weapons (flashlight and flashbangs) to fight the shadows and pay attention to the German Shepherd who signfies approaching enemies and finds items in vents. The sound and visuals are panic-based, where "the more scared Claire is, the scarier the game gets." The developer clarified in the comments of the Greenlight post that Claire is "definitely not a point-and-click game. You manually aim the flashlight, walk/run with the WASD or other custom controls, or can use a controller."
I haven't played too many horror games with pups as co-stars, though Capcom's Haunting Ground came to mind immeidately. We'll see Hailstorm Games can match its terrifying ambitions and integrates the four-legged friend well when Claire hits Windows, Mac, and Linux in either October or November this year.
For now, I'll enjoy game dev Joshua Spinell's artwork:
