SAMCO's Advanceed!, made for the NICONICO indie games festival 2, is full of calculated movement and light puzzle arcade goodness, and it doesn't require any Japanese knowledge to play. Your goal in each of the 30 stages is to reach the red tile by moving your ship in one of eight directions across the map. However, Advanceed! throws more at you to keep you on your toes.
Slippery tiles keep your momentum, rubber tiles bounce you back, cracked tiles fall after one use, enemies need dodging or shooting with a power-up, keys need fetching, arrow-marked tiles send you on your way, and golden power-ups let you touch any surface.
For mastery, you want to turn all tiles into gold (to earn a perfect for the stage), and then return back to the starting tile to grab a crown. Five crowns will take you to a challenge mode where you can collect a ton of points from gems. You can also earn more points in every stage just by turning tiles gold in without letting up on the movement key. Time left becomes bonus points, too.
The controls are simple -
orientation: arrow keys (push two to orientate diagonally)
movement: z key
jump: x key
shoot: x key, when powered up
Okay, so the original version of this game does require a bit of Japanese to pass the second to last stage, as it is a quiz stage. However, I contacted SAMCO Software on Twitter, and the dev was kind enough to upload a version that allows you to skip stage 29 by hitting the "Enter" key. I am so thankful for this, as now everyone can play the ultra challenging Final Zone.
Get addicted to Advanceed! like I did; just be careful not to slip and fall too much.
