The 48- and 72-hour game jam tradition Ludum Dare has kicked off its 28th edition, with the theme of "You Only Get One." Past events have drawn over 2,000 developer teams to submit entries to the contest, and if the number of voters is anything to go by, this event will be just as full. Those not participating but with voyeuristic intentions can watch and learn from others scattering and compiling on the Twitch streaming service.

Along with the above keynote by Dezzles, officials have gathered current deals on software packages for newcomers. Developer McFunkypants has supplied a thorough Ludum Dare survival guide, which may be worth a read in exchange for a more productive weekend. He has also issued an optional challenge of making a game with no killing.

Killing or no, we editors love to take part in the post-Ludum Dare consumption, playing all the games we possibly can while still pumping current news and games to you. We love our jam games in browsers if possible, but freeware is always welcome, too. All that is to say, we're ready for Ludum Dare. Are you?
