Treachery in Beatdown City caught our eye back in July 2013 when it was part of the Evo 2013 Indie Showcase. The developers have now taken to Kickstarter in the hopes that crowdfunding will help complete the game.
Nuchallenger is hoping to evolve the 2D brawler genre with Treachery. While you'll walk around and break objects for health and items in real time, combat is a bit different from what the genre traditionally offers. Combat is broken down tactically, meaning you'll pre-select your actions before throwing down. If you want to throw just punches, go nuts. If you want to mix in some kicks or grappling moves, you're free to do that, too.
You'll learn new moves as the game goes on, helping you fight through the crowds of enemies. There are several different classes, like Grunts who have hidden special attacks. Others may have abilities that lower your stats. Giants are lumbering but strong, while others still may cheer enemies on and provide morale boosts.
The game is a ways off from its release on Windows and Mac, with a target of February 2015. The platforms of choice are a bit of a surprise since the game was originally slated for Playstation Mobile, which does not seem to be the case now. Regardless, the game is up on Kickstarter now.
