In the 2D platformer Maximus Cerebrum, you play as a newly-manufactured robot which was mistakenly given the intelligence to ignore its programmed instructions. The game features multiple paths to explore, although it's impossible to visit all of its available locations in just one playthrough.
The power-ups that you collect mainly increase your jump height. Unlike most metroidvanias, players will never acquire a gun nor will they ever need one to complete the adventure. There are some minor puzzles to solve, with most of them belonging to the easy variety. Logbooks can be read to discover more of the story, and the game also keeps track of the time it takes for you to make your escape for speedrunning purposes.
Maximus Cerebrum is available to download from Game Jolt.
