The original Kaptain Brawe, after finally escaping development hell, ended up being a solid, modest, well designed and good looking point-and-click adventure. Its freshly announced sequel, on the other hand, Kaptain Brawe 2: A Space Travesty, is both asking for your support on Kickstarter and hoping to become something much more.
This time around, the devs are going for a much bigger and more ambitious game with a full voice-over and high definition hand-painted graphics. Importantly, veteran adventure designer, artist and writer Steve Ince has been brought abroad to help make this a unique and great offering. Judging from the fact that Mr. Ince has worked on such projects as Beneath a Steel Sky, the Broken Sword series and So Blonde, hopes can be nothing but high. And plots silly:
"Ursula Unsula, the queen of Zennity Sping, the tiniest planet in the known universe, has grand plans and plans to put those plans into action as soon as she's planned her breakfast of Krypto-Koffee and Kaffles. What grand plans you ask? Why, she only wants to take over Folderakkiakkiu, the second tiniest planet. If she succeeds in doing that, who knows where it will end? Megalomaniacs, eh?
Meanwhile, the only man who has the remotest chance of stopping her is dead, so it falls to Kaptain Brawe to save the day, may the mighty Shelzar have mercy on us all. Unfortunately, Brawe currently finds himself stranded on a remote ice planet with little hope of rescue. It wouldn't be so bad if he hadn't just burnt the last flammable part of his damaged ship in an effort to keep warm."
Provided all goes right, Kaptain Brawe 2 will be available for Windows, Mac OS, Linux, iOS, Android and Windows 8. A pledge of $15 will get you a full copy of the game upon released and episode 2 of the original Kaptain Brawe adventure. Episode 1 has been generously made available for free (Windows, Mac) for the duration of the campaign.
