Smudged Cat Games made sizeable waves with Gateways, but the studio's previous output is good as well. Everyone can see that more easily now that the formerly XBLIG-exclusive Growing Pains is out on Steam.
Growing Pains was inspired by the wife of developer David Johnston, who would become wedged in tight spots or chairs during pregnancy. Her increase in size initially rendered her unable to judge what she could and couldn't fit into. Thus, the game puts players in control over the ever-growing Vessel, whose goal is to collect glow sticks to and reach the exit before the level is too small to continue. You'll run, jump, and wall jump your way toward the checkered flag, increasing in size all the while.
The game is available on Steam for Windows, and is on sale for $4 during launch, after which it will tick up to its actual $5 pricepoint.
