If you're going to cite games like Metroid, Guacamelee and Devil May Cry as influences for your new gaming project, you better make sure whatever you show lives up to that claim. Luckily, Beyond Human appears to do just that. Blending fast-paced melee combat with the loneliness of isolated space exploration could be a winning combo after all.
Beyond Human follows the tried-and-true formula of non-linear exploration through player experimentation. It's up to you get somewhere new. It's up to you to figure out how. Finding and killing optional mini-bosses cause new abilities to unlock and expand your moveset.
The same goes for the required main boss fights, who will bestow their powers on you upon defeat. The bosses are considered the stars of the game by the developer and hopes players will find them "adrenaline pumping", "over the top" and "bad ass".
Even in this early stage, the atmosphere seems to be firmly in place. The opening of the Kickstarter video shows off areas that evoke the quiet isolation and impending doom found in Nintendo's Metroid series.
If Beyond Human is funded successfully it will be released on Windows, Mac, Playstation 4 and Vita (with Crossbuy support). The target for release is June 2016.
