About The IGF

IndieGames.com is presented by the UBM TechWeb Game Network, which runs the Independent Games Festival & Summit every year at Game Developers Conference. The company (producer of the Game Developers Conference series, Gamasutra.com and Game Developer magazine) established the Independent Games Festival in 1998 to encourage innovation in game development and to recognize the best independent game developers.

Featuring lectures, postmortems and roundtables from some of the most notable independent game creators around, the Independent Games Summit is a yearly event, with iterations thus far taking place in March 2007, February 2008, March 2009 and March 2010 at Game Developers Conference.

UBM TechWeb (which curates the IGF and runs GDC) plans to continue and grow the Independent Games Summit in subsequent years.

2. Awakener

Awakener is a one room adventure game created by Ben Chandler using the reliable AGS engine, where you play as a boy named Fadi who has to help his Aunt Sylvia with a small chore just outside her tavern.

Your quest can be completed quite easily by talking to other characters around town and acquiring items from them. A nice little diversion for the afternoon which shouldn't take anyone longer than fifteen minutes to finish.

"Sometimes when making a game I try to test out new ideas or ignore a convention of the genre, but with Awakener I really just wanted to make a little game that was fun and made people smile. I made it like most of my games in a few weeks. My current projects are both big and small - I'm working on a collaboration that's much darker in tone than anything I've done to date, and also building a smaller lighthearted one myself. I don't know if I'll be able to get as many games out in 2010 as I did in 2009, but I sure hope I can make a few! There's also some non-AGS, non-adventure stuff in the works, but that's a long way off yet." - Ben
