About The IGF

IndieGames.com is presented by the UBM TechWeb Game Network, which runs the Independent Games Festival & Summit every year at Game Developers Conference. The company (producer of the Game Developers Conference series, Gamasutra.com and Game Developer magazine) established the Independent Games Festival in 1998 to encourage innovation in game development and to recognize the best independent game developers.

Featuring lectures, postmortems and roundtables from some of the most notable independent game creators around, the Independent Games Summit is a yearly event, with iterations thus far taking place in March 2007, February 2008, March 2009 and March 2010 at Game Developers Conference.

UBM TechWeb (which curates the IGF and runs GDC) plans to continue and grow the Independent Games Summit in subsequent years.

4. 78641 - A Targ Adventure

A warning in advance - nothing about this adventure game experience makes any sense whatsoever, including the ridiculous name. But my, what an experience it is. Playing as a walking, talking frying pan, you're sent back post-death to live your life properly.

The problem is, it's not exactly clear what you're meant to be going back in time to do. Cue randomly trying different things, finding the best outcomes and crashing your car repeatedly to restart time again in a very Groundhog Day-esque style.

The game is quite heavy in dialogue, but fortunately it's pretty hilarious in most parts (although maybe a little tasteless in others). Please be warned, rude conversations are plentiful and there's a few naughty pictures too. I'm sure that will just make you want to play it more rather than deter, right?

"78641 is based off a style and ideas we've had for years, but haven't put into a video game form. The goal was to make sure there was some penetration to the outside world, while still retaining integrity of our ideas. Many design choices were made to ensure that you could interpret this from a broad range of perspectives while still getting something out of it. As a result, the kind of responses we've seen for the game have been the most varied of any game we've made." - Jesse Ceranowicz
