Featuring lectures, postmortems and roundtables from some of the most notable independent game creators around, the Independent Games Summit is a yearly event, with iterations thus far taking place in March 2007, February 2008, March 2009 and March 2010 at Game Developers Conference.

UBM TechWeb (which curates the IGF and runs GDC) plans to continue and grow the Independent Games Summit in subsequent years.

14. This is the Only Level


This is the Only Level is a short puzzle platformer that can be completed in roughly ten minutes or so. The objective here is to guide a blue elephant towards the exit pipe safely, but in order to achieve that you would first have to unlock the door which blocks your path to freedom.

Players are allowed to retry a level as many times as they want. If you happen to get stuck, just press the panic button to reset everything back to their original positions for another go.


"The funny thing about This is The Only Level (TiTOL) was that it was a fallback plan to another game. The original concept was to be an evolving stage; the level would start with nothing in it and each time the level was completed another element would be added to the room. However it was clear after a few levels that this wasn't going to work out (it was far too repetitive). Adding a Fourth Wall to the concept is what really got it grooving.

I drew a single level on a piece of graph paper and wrote down each way that the level could be beat. I'm a sucker for lists, it was the same thing I did for Achievement Unlocked and it's achievement list. I then went about setting the rules for each passthrough until there were a good 30 ways to beat the level. It only took a Friday to take the project from planned to published.

People seemed to really like it so I am exploring a sequel this year with a bit more pizazz and rule bending. It was definitely a short experimental project, I was happy its reception was so warm and hope the next one can live up to the first." - John
