17. FallOver

FallOver is Hempuli's physics-based platformer that feels broken at first, but then becomes rather fun after spending a couple of minutes coming to gripes with an unbalanced protagonist and the floaty control scheme. You play as a gentleman who has to collect coins and reach the white flag safely, as he is prone to fall over with the slightest touch of any bump on the landscape. Players can stand up to three times if they happen to trip, and a quick restart button is included in case you use up all of your retries.

"The idea of physics-induced platforming had been in my mind quite a long time before I made FallOver. At first I felt that this sort of game might be too experimental or confusing to play, but later on I realized that it wouldn't really matter because it would be the players that'd decide if this was the case, not me. I was rather surprised about the positive comments I got!

The style and outlook of the game was decided rather quickly, because I mostly just wanted to show the concept, not make a 'full' game out of the idea. I created levels until I felt there were no more tricks to be had, and then just quickly added a score system to add some bonus interest to it. Afterwards I've thought that I could've spent more time thinking of the game before making it." - Hempuli
