18. 41st Reality

41st Reality is an arena shooter created by the developer of Abstract Sea and Neon. Certain power-ups are activated automatically once collected, while others can be stored in your item slot for emergency situations. The game does end once a certain point is reached, where a congratulatory is shown and you will be allowed to submit your score online.

"I've always been drawn to shooters due to the infinite number of gameplay possibilities that can be drawn out of such a simple core idea, and the freedom to easily experiment with visual styles. 41st Reality is the culmination of my experience in creating shooters and as such, I wanted to attempt to bring together gameplay from many tried and tested shmups as well as my own ideas and techniques that I've collected over the years. An example is the Space Invader enemies, which are clearly recognisable as being space invaders, but yet behave slightly differently to how they behave in the original, and blend into the rest of the action without it feeling like you're playing many different games at once.

My games are never intended to be groundbreaking or super original. I'm more interested in taking a game concept that could otherwise be pretty bland, and interpreting them in my own way to produce a game that's fun to play and that hopefully stands out from the very crowded flash game scene." - Ali
