"The main thing I wanted players to feel was compassion for the woman, or guilt if they snuck out as soon as they could." says Lucy Blundell, creator of One Night Stand, a game about waking up next to a naked stranger after a drunken night. In it, players will be able to play out this uncomfortable situation in multiple ways, deciding on whether they want to get to know the smiling young woman they've awoken with or not.

Many likely will want to get to know her, as Blundell creates an instant bond between the player and the woman, Robin, using visual style, the gameplay, and the environment around the player to paint a picture of an interesting person with a delightful grin, charming players and drawing them in to know more.

When Commandos was released in 1998, it successfully combined real-time tactics with a focus on stealth. While other companies tried to copy the game's winning formula - there were Wild West, Star Trek, and Robin Hood-themed Commandos clones - none of these games could ever live up to the original. Until now, that is. The new king of sneaky real-time tactics is called Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun, and it's out today.

The thegn is dead, long live the new thegn! That's you, by the way. New Viking ruler on the block, having inherited the reign over your lands from your father. However, some of your fellow tribesmen don't seem too happy with that, and before you know it, your inauguration is interrupted by unfriendly northmen, crashing your party. This is merely the start of a grand adventure, but it sets the tone of Expeditions: Viking from the get-go. Cold weather, mead, and the sound of battle. If that sounds tempting, you should read on.

Crafting A Story About Relationships And Dealing With Failure For Pyre

November 30, 2016 7:40 PM | Lena LeRay

Pyre_Wallpaper_01.jpgSupergiant Games' first two games, Bastion and Transistor, are isometric action games. They have very different settings and Transistor improved on the combat of Bastion, but the mechanical similarities were obvious. However, their upcoming game Pyre, due out sometime next year, is set to be an RPG revolving around a sports-like 3v3 ritual. At the heart of that strange leap is a desire to craft a story about a larger cast of characters and dealing with failure.

Master An Alien Language In Sci-Fi Puzzler Sethian

In dialogue choice-driven games, your words define you. Through your conversation, you can be a noble hero saving the galaxy, a good friend, a selfish father figure during the undead apocalypse, a suave spy. The challenge lies in choosing what to say.

In Sethian, you do have to choose what to say, uncovering the secrets of a lost civilization through your queries. But first you have to learn how to say it, because question, answer, and in fact the majority of the game's UI is presented in an alien language. It's a text adventure from another world.
